Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is one of the oldest forms of health practice and has been used to enhance health, general well being and healing since ancient times. Ancient Greece, Persia, Arabia, India, Egypt, China and Japan all utilized massage as part of health maintenance.
Various methods of massage exist, such as long strokes, deep pressure, percussion, vibration, stretching, kneading, shaking, brushing and rolling. Usually massage is performed by hand and oil is used to reduce skin friction, allowing the deeper muscles to be worked. Different styles of massage are common. Those used by this clinic include:
--Swedish: the most common type of massage that involves long strokes, kneading, some stretching and movement, relaxing the muscles.
--Deep Tissue: essentially the same as Swedish, but much deeper into the underlying tissue.
--Myofascial Release: focuses on breaking up adhesions in the fascia that covers the muscles and restricts muscle motion and causes referred pain.
--Shiatsu: similar to Trigger Point Therapy, this Japanese style of massage applies pressure to Acupuncture points to affect change in the body as well as relaxation.
--Kobido: Japanese facial massage, used as part of the Facial Rejuvenation process.
